I have a male and female Zebra. I put a nest in the cage and the male is filling it with nesting material. The female doesn't go in the nest but the male sits in it and keeps adding material to it.
I've checked the Finch Information Center (which is a great site by the way; I've learned a lot) but I can't find any info on this behavior.
Does anyone have any ideas? Experience can be a better teacher than books.

They are being Zebras--give them a nest, and they will raise a family! He will keep adding to the nest till he (or she) is happy with it, and soon you will have eggs. The female might not be ready to breed, so she has no desire to go in the nest, but it is only a matter of time.
Yes, the FIC is a great site--the species information is about the best I've found.

Thanks for the info. I never thought of the fact that she has no desire to go in the nest. He keeps re-arranging and it seems like he's checking the nest for comfort. I guess he wants everything perfect when the moment arrives. Thanks again.Sally wrote:They are being Zebras--give them a nest, and they will raise a family!
