Do you have a hard time parting with your birds?

Post by HepburnShoeMee » Wed Apr 23, 2008 2:33 pm

I have been called the crazy bird lady by my husband. I really don't want to let any of them go. I did have a successful batch of zebra finches back in Feb/08 and I now have a chance to sell one of my females to a friend.

Awww, its bitter sweet. I do really enjoy them. But I guess I can't keep every single bird. Its just really hard to find the best homes that you can. I don't want to give them to just anyone. I do think that owning a bird is harder and more work than I thought initially. And I guess I am not sure if everyone else knows that.

I feel like my mother when I was heading off to college. Bittersweet - but it just has to be! HA!!!

Yes - I am a nut. Crazy bird lady suits me just fine.

I think it is great that you care for them so. That makes you a great pet owner. I cannot part with mine either. I have adopted a few of them out to my students that I teach at school, but they have to go and get the appropriate cage, food, etc. before I do that and they I feel guilty. But you can't keep all those babies. It is impossible.

I have that same problem whenever I breed one of my animal species. I used to breed mice and ended up with 50 at one point cause I just couldnt sell them. I took over the whole garage with cages.
I also had troubles parting with my quails when I bred them cause they were just so adorable!
If it wasnt for time, money and space contraints I would never part with any creature again but it got to the point where I was stretched to my limit and it would be doing my babies a great disservice to keep them (plus my mum and my bf were having fits about it).
Its so hard!

I have the same problem. Whenever I have rehomed any of my birds...I always miss them and wonder if they are being treated well by the new owners. :(
