is this zeb a female?

Post by chinchilla » Tue Jun 10, 2008 7:23 pm

she has been with a male for about a month now and no nest action, she only seems interested in trying to get into the cage next door which has another zeb family. then i noticed in a certain light she has faint cheeks. do zeb females get cheeks? ehhhh :? anyway here are some pics of her (she also has red eyes but none of my other zebs do)

thats a tuff one, i would say she is a female because her beak is a light orange. But there is a little black on her chest, have you heard singing? I have a female with the cheeks but no color on her chest.

i've never heard her sing the male song, yeh i heard that females don't get breast bars but her beak does look orange, weird huh? i'm not sure what to do, i guess i'll give her a bit more time to see if she nests.

I'm going with female on this one based on the lighter color beak. My female has a hairline breast bar but she is a black cheek so it happens sometimes. I would like to see the offspring of your "female". Want to sell?

yes, it is a female. I'm sure because there are no stripes on the throat and It seems like it has no flanks. also the beak is light plus the cheeks are very light almost invisible.

hehe if you give me a hen in return, oh and the airline fees, i live in australia :D when she does decide to raise a clutch i'll post the pics for you  i've got a chestnut flanked white cock and a hen the same colour to this one (exept no cheeks or breast bars) who has a clutch fledging in the next few days. interesting to see what they turn out like
