And I *think* they are sitting tight...
My gouldian pair started chasing the little cordon blue rescue relentlessly about 2 weeks ago. I pulled him out right before our weekend vacation, and when I got back, eggs in the nest! Now would they know what to do with them... for the first few days they were sleeping on their sleeping perch, and I started to worry, but a few nights ago Milly started sitting all night... and all day
Nik sits at the doorway to the nest and guards it

.
So now I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Congrats! It sounds like they are doing the breeding thing. Now you have a single CB, you know what that means? You will have to get him a buddy!

Actually, if he is OK for the time being, you could always wait and see if you have some LG weanlings to join him before too long.

thats not nice Sally, why should the little CB have to wait for a friend

Addicted to Finches, yes I do admit it.
I pray they never find a cure.

I was actually thinking the babies might get to live with him. Or her.... that's the other problem, it seems CBs are much harder to sex than my gouldians. He's a normal blue, not a blue cap or a red ear, so just not sure how to tell. Otherwise I'd be all over getting him a friend -- he does look so lonely in that cage.
He's developed a little game of jumping from his perch to his swing so it will swing.... when it finally stops he'll do it over and over.

I have Blue-capped and Red-cheeked Cordon Bleus, and they are very easy to sex, but I have not had the Blue-breasted Cordon Bleu. At the FIC, it says this species has much more extensive blue on the breast, but hens of all subspecies look very similar. Can you post a photo? I can tell the difference between my BCCB and RCCB hens, as the RCCB hen has a dark tip to the beak, while the BCCB does not.

I will try to get him to sit still for a photo in the coming week. Jumpy little thing though

.
He is still missing some feathers on teh back of his head, but overall his condition has improved a lot since I brought him home.
