finally a parent reared red cheeked cordon chick has fledged. it does look as though it has come out a few days early though. scruffy and patchy is the best way I can describe it

Addicted to Finches, yes I do admit it.
I pray they never find a cure.

Does look a little early (not completely covered by feathers) but maybe that's how RCCB's fledge - I don't know. I do know he's cute as all get out! Congratulations!

Congratulation. And parent raised!! A great accomplishment for you and parents.

I think I remember Sally saying they come out a little early looking like that. It is adorable.

Congrats, mick! Yes, these RCCB babies seem to come out of the nest a little early--they always look 'unfinished'. Even the look on their face is like shell-shocked! They will stay looking like this for another few days, and gradually get more feathers and smooth out. I hope there are more to come, but my pair didn't have any problem with just one baby, either.

good news and bad news now. there was a second bub in the nest.
it attempted to come out of the nest while I was in the aviary changing the food and water. pooor little bugger had no flight control at all. fell like a stone to the aviary floor. when I got to it it was dead, broken neck

oh gosh..... sad! I always dread that happening with the nest so high. I have seven gouldians that are in a nest which is really to small. They hang out sometimes to eat and I worry about them falling like that.
So sorry!
