More eggs.....

Post by adiekaty » Mon Dec 29, 2008 10:04 pm

OK.... Here's the update.... Two Zeb's fledged a few weeks ago.
Today I put them in their own cage... All is well...
One male and a female...
The male is sooooo cute... He tries sooo hard to sound like dad... Just doesn't quite have it down yet...

Anyhow, Here is the dilemma.... Mom has alredy layed 10 new eggs   That's correct.... 10.... Oh my.... Please tell me these aren't gonna be fertile.... She really layed 12 total, but the 1st two were knocked out of the nest (and eaten) so we have 10.

If the dates I have are correct, hatching should start on New Years day...What should I do???
Wish me luck.....

A box turtle and a softshell turtle...
Can I count the husband and 3 kids in here too?

Woohoo for MORE eggs! Only 10 you say? Could be they are all fertile - you'll know soon. If you don't want babies after this clutch then simply remove the nest. They don't need it to be happy. In the meantime - enjoy the babies - they don't stay young for very long... and do post some pics when you can.

I got a new camera for Christmas... Have a ton of pics. just need to figure out how to get them uploaded....

Still in shock about 10 eggs.... maybe I should get a few societies to be on stand-by.....
They threw the 1st 3 babies out at 4 days.... they did really well with the last two. Guess now mom thinks she's got this parenting thing down....
The dad really did alot. He was a great father... The babies snuggled up to him until the move today, he had more patience than mom. Once she layed the new eggs, the babies became a bother to her...
Adiekaty
Wish someone was in my area that wanted the babies.... I put them on Craigslist, but didnt want to sell them to the person that called.... Bad huh?
She was CLUELESS!
Hope they find new homes soon..... Anybody close to Houston?
