Sorry, another Java Finch question

Post by bobsinoregon » Sat Oct 10, 2015 5:19 pm

So, I know I had two males. I asked the breeder to get me a female, as I'd like to breed them.

The new one has the right size and color beak, eye ring, color and alignment with the beak, BUT has had a bit of song on occasion. Not just chatter, a bit more then that.

Is there ever a time that the FEMALE may have a bit of song,? PLEASE says yes.

No females do not sing. The make a bit of a clucking noise.

Sounds like a very young male trying out its first song. I'd take it back and try again for a female.

Take you time and observe the finches. See if you can listen to them. Pick out the one you know has the female clucking noise Cindy mentioned. If it takes over an hour its worth it.

That how I accurately sexed my society finches in the pet store. I actually pulled up a stool the workers used and just watched, they thought I was crazy.....ha!

You can post a profile shot of the java and we can help you sex it. If they are young it is often tricky to tell with some. Other males you can tell the sex early on. Javas are mature around 9 to 10 months.

Are these normal? Or a mutation? fawns and silvers are also sexed by cap color.
