The babies Chocolate and Swirl looked fine..I didn't see any marks on them..Full crops and they were just sitting snuggled together like they always did. Our youngest was pretty upset. He really liked Chocolate..He would have had a crest just like his Daddy

I know how upsetting it can be, and very difficult to explain to a child.

You could sit the kiddies down, and tell them : That there is a special place over the Rainbow Bridge, where little birdies sometimes go....... A little funeral, sometimes helps children get through these things.

I'm sorry Kelly, that's all I can say. One could search endlessly for explanations, and answers, but in the end, it makes no difference really.

I'm not sure what went wrong. It could have been anything from lack of warmth, some sort of an infection, a digestive issue, something in the air.....

Personally, I would let them try again, and I wouldn't make a big issue out of new eggs and so on with the kids, untill babies pop out of the nest.

Have a good day hon, and be good to yourself :-).

I am so sorry for your loss. It must be terribly difficult right now, but you cannot blame yourself. The parents are fine. They had a nest and food to feed the young. The rest was up to Mother Nature and unfortunately she is very cruel sometimes.

I'm so sorry to hear about the babies...I know how heartbreaking it can be to lose any. You're a great finch mom, so please don't doubt that! It sounds like everything was going great, and the parents were doing everything right. Societies are so quick to breed, I'm sure it won't take long before they have more little ones.
