Gouldian pair laying eggs etc. help to nest box
I have a 4 year old gouldian pair that I am hoping to have breed for the first time. The female is laying eggs on the cage floor, they have been putting torn up kleenex under the newspaper sheets on the bottom of the cage, some eggs under there too. How can I get them to try out the plastic nesting box on the cage side? Would I be better off putting some sort of nest on the cage floor instead? I have just put some dried grass in with them now to see if they will try that. Any help will be appreciated.

If they are refusing to use the plastic box, you might want to try a wood box instead. Some couples are picky about the type of nest they will use.
Have you made a little nest for them in the nest box (?) Some nesting materials pressed into a little bowl/nest shape. A bit of shredded kleenex, some hay, grass, and so on. Gouldians tend to not be the greatest when it comes to nest building, and some need a bit of a hand the first time around.
Personally, I would shape a little nest in your nest box, place some spray millet in there, and take the laid eggs (very gently) and put them into the nest. Make sure that the parents are watching when you do this, maybe it will give them a clue as to where these round white things should go
Good luck

I will try a wooden nest box like you suggested with some spray millet in there. I have dried grass in with them and have fixed the plastic box like you mentioned. Still not interested in it. Will set up the wood box now too.

Re: Gouldian pair laying eggs etc. help to nest box
I added more nesting material to the nest box and more in the cage. Put two of the laid eggs in there too. I found a wooden nest box to add and also try. Came home with it to have my teenage son tell me that he saw the female come out of the plastic nest box twice that day. We have not witnessed her since though doing so. Looks like the nest box material may have been rearranged from the door way. Wondering if I should peek to see if she laid any more eggs in there, as I have not found any more in the cage bottom now.
