Update:
The two hatchlings are cute! Still in the nest. Sort of fuzzy but not really feathered enough to venture a guess as to color.
In the other cage, where the female tossed her first couple of eggs and then laid one more, there is one little lumpy alien.

I understand the 'ugly' looking babies, but once they start getting the pin feathers they start looking more like birds. I am new to having finches and going through the baby stage right now with three babies. My daughter thought the crop was the ugliest thing she has ever seen, but now that they are fully feather and now fly on their own you don't see the crop anymore.

Yes, the first time you see newly hatched bird babies, it is a little bit of a eeeuuue!!! moment, but after a few clutches, you come to appreciate the beauty of life in these tiny little alien looking beings, so detemined to survive.

By the way , welcome to the Forum.
What sort of baby finches do you have? We'd love to see some pictures.

Best wishes.

I have 3 baby zebra finches and their parents. They're about 5-6 weeks old. I'm still trying to figure out how to post photos, but once I do, I'll post a photo of them. Not sure how to wean them though.
