Yes, My Silver Java Finches have 2 healthy babies

Post by bobsinoregon » Sat Jan 16, 2016 2:15 pm

I'm like a new dad. The babies have left the nest and the pair already had begun to lay another clutch.

My question is do and when should you separate babies from parents. or if they are getting along can the all live together?

I should mention that they are flight cages, once divided they are 18x18x18

Thank you!

unless they harass the babies you can leave them. Sometimes the dad will pluck them or try to mate with them, so keep an eye open.

No, ideally you want at least another 30 x 18 for them.

Javas can remain with the parents provided the cage is large enough and you are not breeding again, if breeding remove the young.. though some java parents do allow the weaned young to sit with them on eggs and help tend the young.

Javas tend to mob together and hang out. Some families do get along well, just watch for aggreesion from either dad or mom... dad on sone and mom on daughter. The parents tend to bond closely and any java of the same sex can be seen as a threat. I have only seen this once in all the pairs I have. Most the time it is a community type living.

The parents have laid another clutch and parents and original two babies are all trying to fit into the nest.

I'm afraid the new clutch will be crushed.

Babies are eating on their own!

I think they need to be separated, right?

Right, remove the young if they are eating on their own and interfering with the next clutch.
Good luck, keep us posted

Only remove the young is eating and drinking on their own, no begging at all.

Some of my parents with one or two young will allow them to sit with mom to help incubate, it depends on the parents and the size of the box.
