Painted Finch eggs!!!
So I noticed one of my pairs had been spending a lot of time in the nest so I decided to be naughty and check it and I have eggs. There's at least four, maybe more. I didn't pull it, just did a quick finger check. I'm so hoping they feed their chicks. I don't have any Societies that could foster right now.

Guess I'm going to have to google "Painted Finch". Not sure what species you are referring to. But CONGRATS on eggs!!! Yea!!! How about a photo of the parents? I need to get on your site and check out your birds. You have some very interesting species. Best of luck!!!!

When did you get Painted Firetails, Colt?
I don't recall hearing about them before, or is my memory failing me yet again, lol ?
Congratulations, and best of luck.

Re: Painted Finch eggs!!!
I got these lovely birds in January from sunbay! They are gorgeous. They are devouring egg food, so I'm really hoping that vs live food will be enough for them to feed.

did they build their platform first before constructing the nest. only aussie finch to do so. apparently the platform is to protect the nest and eggs from the sharp spikes of the spinifex grass. they can certainly cart some rubbish to do just that task alone.
I had about 30 or so 5 years ago. very peaceful and love sunbathing on the floor on rocks. they now have a fawn mutation here in aust.

They didn't. I gave them six different nesting options (plastic ABBA boxes; hanging, wicker baskets and tubes, and wooden open-faced Society nest boxes on the floor. The breeding pair chose a wicker basket midway up the flight tucked into some bamboo. The other hen prefers the wooden box on the floor. I would love to see the Fawn color! I think the yellow vs red birds look sharp too!

Re: Painted Finch eggs!!!
I've had the red and yellows but not the fawns. they are a pretty new mutation at $600 pair colour and split. those painted finches are a laugh when building their platform prior to the nest.
they will cart all or any type of junk to get it going. when I had them they were housed with blue caps. so were eager to get the broken bits from the white ant or termite nest to use as the platform. overall a very untidy nest
