I got my first pair in March and they laid thier first clutch last week. Everything was fine with the male building the nest and sitting on the eggs but since yesterday the hen is not letting him near the nest without a fight. As soon as she comes out she fly's after him and he has to sneak his way in. She only lets him sit for 10 minutes then goes back and pushes him out.
Thier alone in a big canary breeding cage 30"x 15" x18"H. I didn't want to separate them but if I have to I can put the divider.

Divide the cage and separate them.
Not worth the hassles of her fighting with him.

Re: Breeding zebras fighting
I have an open front nest box that the zebras use from my canaries. I put a piece of card board in front with about 3" of open space, enough for them to get in and out and stand on and the just stopped fighting. I guess she didn't think the nest was protected or something cause it worked

That was a good idea! Most finches use more private nests than the open canary nest, so that may have been the problem.
