Gouldian toss 2 babies after a week

Today after a week , I check the Nest and noticed two babies were missing and found them on the floor of my Aviary. After a weekof taking care of them, my Gouldian decided to toss two babies . The other two are doing well. Does anybody know why , they are house with other Gouldian and other different species of finches.

I'm not positive but I would guess that another bird pulled the chicks out and not the parents.

When your breeding with other of the same species and especially mixed species it is very important to provide protection for your nesting pair. Sometimes just added greenery around the nest is good enough. I always use nest boxes that have hole entrances and not half open so that the nesting pair can defend their nest and prevent intruders from entering their nest.

So sorry for your losses. It is heartbreaking to loose chicks that were that far along.

I agree with Debbie276, it is possible that another bird is the culprit. It is unusual for Gouldians to toss at this stage. So sorry you lost two of them.
