after 3 years of crossing the lime mutation with the purple breasted and white breasted blue this is the first year I have actually had a young fly. well actually 2 have. last year I lost at least 30 of the purple coloured hatchling within the first 24 hours.
mainly because the parents had no interest at all in feeding them so I guess because of their skin colour they were classed as complete outcasts. I never experienced having them tossed out or anything like that -just not feed and were dead with the time frame of 24/48 hours.
this season I was lucky in a way. only 2 nests hatched with these purple looking young. one pair hatched 3 out of 5 and let them all die and the other nest hatched 2 and luck was with me and they fed them well and they are flying about.
at the moment I wouldn't class the young in question as good strong birds but considering the second choice -they are well ahead of that one. when they first came out they were more grey in the feathers than a blue and its only now a tinge of turquoise blue is coming through. one appears to be white breasted too.
parents raised 8 in total after hatching 8 young. total eggs laid were 11. parents have not returned back to nest but at this stage all young are alive and hopefully I can get them through the moult to see the end result
so a couple of photos from the very hatching to just out of the nest and the last couple taken a couple of days ago.

Re: New Blue Gouldian Mutation
They are definitely a different hue than my juvenile blues getting ready to color up. Much grayer.
Can't wait to see their full molt.

Congrats! It will be interesting to see how they develop, and what their adult colors will look like.

That is amazing! You should get society finches and see if they will take over after the babies get abandoned by mom and dad. Society Finches are used as foster parents. Not sure exactly how it would work I have not tried it. Look into it. Good luck.
