Breeding head colors

Post by Airlyn » Wed May 25, 2016 5:16 pm

Hi, it has been a while since I have been to the forum. Some health issues have kept me from a lot of interests.
I have some questions I hope to have addressed. Please be patient in your replies. No flaming please.
I just read an article on breeding head colors. This occurs after I had bought a new pair and bred them :(
I put their breeding issues down to being inexperienced. I would like advice as to how to handle them next year.
I have a bh/wc/gb hen and a rh/pc/gb cock. They only hatched out 3 of one clutch and a singleton of another. They didn't hatch any out of their first try. Should I get them new mates for next year?
Also I have a rh/pc/gb hen mates to a yh/wc/yb Vick.
They are awesome parents. They had a clutch of 7 this year and hatched all. This was their second year to breed.

Of the babies I have 3 gb/pc/yh males
3 yb/pc/yh females and a yb/wc/yh I don't know sex of that one. It is hard to tell with the white chests. The yellow underbelly does appear more vibrant.
Since all are yellow (orange headed) how does the parents generic make up account for that. It is so very confusing!
Thank you

Your RH must be split to YH to get YH chick's.
The article about head colors has not been proven in my flock. I've had many mixed color heads have 100% survival rate. Personally I would attribute it to inexperience and/or disruption from other sources.
Good luck
