Hi... she said the same as I did... she has used formula with a bit of medistatin or nystatin. She said she is seeing a friend who does extensive work with wild birds and will ask him tomorrow any other foods you can use. There is a formula made by Mazuri for songbirds, it is higher in protein, she will check on that for you also as something you can add to the formula. Let you know asap when I hear back from her. She also has a pet sparrow she raised.

You are doing great....she said just watch the spot and crop for inflammation/red or the spot changes. The spot may clear itself. Eating and passing droppings is a good sign.

Thank you so much for your input. It is a weaver bird which is only related to finches and it is not a finch itself but finches and this bird are in the same family. Avian vets are rare in my country, i reached out to people here and finally found a vet within my own locality. I called him and explained everything and he confirmed that the brown patch on the lower crop was inflammation but he also said that the inflammation was most likely due to overfeeding and not any infection. I looked hard for any signs of yeast infection but there seems to be none. Its healthy and keeps begging even when the crop is seemingly full.

It defecates normally and the poop is looks very normal and healthy, almost exactly as mentioned in the finchinfo website. Everything else seems to be normal except the inflammation. The vet advised me to shift partially to a rice based baby powder mix rather than the commercial formula. He said it contains too much sugar which may cause yeast to set in. I am doing that currently.

Since the inflammation is a discolored patch and a bit raised than the surrounding skin, I'm having a tough time deciding if the crop is really full or not. Half the time I am worried about underfeeding the baby but I dare not risk overfeeding and asphyxiation.

I am taking it to the vet tomorrow and have made the necessary arrangements to keep in warm during the transit. I hope, it all goes well and it grows up into a healthy fledgling soon.

Ps: it started squeaking recently and squeaks when I feed it food. Again I was afraid if the squeaking meant choking or anything like that but after observation it was not so. Being a complete novice in birds and hand raising a hatchling is the one of the most terrifying thing I have experienced yet.

Thank you so much for your support, I really just want the little one to grow into a healthy adult so that it may be successfully rehabilitated. I shall post an update after the vet visit
