I wish I could solve it by separation, however this female has figured out he's blind, how to communicate with him despite the language differences and overall brought his quality of life way WAY up.

With his vision issues, I really can't put him through a severe change in the hopes another bird will be so amazing with him.

So, if any eggs pop up I think I will just replace with duds and let her get nice and broody. That way, hopefully, she will naturally thwart off his advances for a while.

I'm pretty sure these two species can't hybridize(?) Anyone know if this is possible?
They need to stay together. <3 How sweet that they have found a way to love each other even though they are different species.

Thanks! I totally agree. At this stage I don't think the female society would be happy with a male of her own species.

She's the most vocal female society I have ever heard because she calls to him constantly so he can locate her by sound as she moves about the cage

Smart girl, how she's figured this out all on her own.

Of course they need to stay together, who would have the heart to seperate these two? and cause them heartache?

It's just like Max and Kelsie, they simply belong together even though he's a Zebra, and she's a Society.

Some things, are just meant to be <3 <3 <3

Babs, that is so amazing to me that she knows that he's blind so she calls to him. I am more and more fascinated by these little creatures every day. <3

Societies just have that special touch, don't they? <3

I got a short video of them both just chilling side-by-side in the nest. I'll try to find time to load it up. M&M jumped up pretty quick when she noticed my hands moving around.

I spent half the day with a technician troubleshooting the internet in the office. While the tech was there, just feet from the cage, Midget went in and jumped on her making all kinds of noise. The look on the technician's face was priceless. :-O

Me :"Yes sir he's trying to mate. No sir, they aren't the same species"

Tech : :-\

Me :"The one with the orange face is male. He's Blind. He doesn't know any better. Like most men"

Tech: :))

I was curious as to whether a society and a gouldian can produce viable offspring. I still do not have an answer but found a disturbing post about disease:

Fortunately my societies are clean. I breed my own from two pair who successfully fostered a gouldian clutch ( well halfway, I handfed the babies after about 10 days) last season.

No gouldian deaths or signs of sickness. The female society with my blind gouldian is Cacklejax and Dueces daughter. My gouldian is healthy and safe.
Because of disease I will only breed my own societies.

Hi,

These two sweethearts will not have babies.

The two diseases that you are refering to, are Campylobacter and Cochlosoma.

Here's some information, which you may find interesting....
