Apparently younger birds are often fed by their older siblings, and other birds, esp. in an aviary. I've heard it called "free loading". Where they can feed themselves, but prefer to try and get it free from adults. They are amusing!

Hello Elana,
Did the Cinnamon mutation originally occur in nature somewhere, or was it accidently or deliberately achieved through selective breeding?
I assume all these mutations exist in the wind stock in extremely small quantities, thus the chance of a pairing of a wild hen and cock holding the same rare mutation is extremely low, and therefore we normally wouldn't see that mutation in the wild unless we looked at thousands of specimens.
Are they the same as the Fawn?
We call it cinnamon here but the Aussies and the US (maybe Canada and elsewhere too?) call it fawn.
And what pray tell are these two in the picture below???
Ummm, would that be the pied mutation?

Hi Ross,

Re. those odd looking Owls...
I have absolutely no idea, that's why I was asking you, lol.

I happened to come across this picture in my internet travels, and couldn't make heads or tails of it. They are Owls though, but very strange looking indeed. Just goes to show, that just because you can do something, doesn't necesarily mean you should  .

Thanks for clarifying the Fawn/Cinnamon question. I wasn't sure, so thought I'd ask.

Are you still breeding your Gouldians?

Debbie....I cant recall if I thanked you for your genetic break down, It was very helpful. The pair are on their second clutch and I can't wait to see what comes out next.
I do have another question or observation to share. I have several pairs that are either with other pairs and young in a large flight cages or in a flight cage of their own. They are laying eggs and none are hatching...they receive the same lighting, food and water as my proven pair. Any ideas on what I can do? Thanks.
