Video 3 Tossed kids are Big kids now

Post by Babs _Owner » Sat Mar 25, 2017 10:05 am

Lately tagging people isn't working too well for me, and my other post of it is buried in a long thread. So for those wondering about the tiny guys that were in my brooder early this month, here they are.

This is day one out of the brooder and into their first cage to get their coordination up and get them used to room temperature.

At no time during their hand feeding did I medicate. I just kept the formula at proper temps and most importantly the babies at proper temperature throughout the process.

Congrats on YOUR beautiful babies! You definitely get to claim them as yours. What a great job and taking the time to make the "training" video for the rest of us is so valuable.

I have two babies that were going to fledge in about a week but were not leaving the nest soon enough for mom and dad so they were ejected, but not after being pecked on the head and face. I'm not sure what that was all about but referring to your video, I was able to hand feed them for a couple of weeks and kept them alive! :) I used antibiotic ointment on their heads and they look better, but not sure if they will be scarred or if feathers will grow. Time will tell. One of them never would beg....ever! The smaller/younger one did after a while. They are in my outdoor aviary now, flying pretty well and eating seed. Sometimes they beg and are being fed by random Goulds, so I FINALLY have a happy ending!

Thanks again for sharing all your experiences!

Jenny that is awesome news!! What a challenge to get them that late and still get food into them! #:-S Getting those reluctant beaks to open for you is tough work. =D> Happy Ending indeed! \M/

Now that you have your feeding station, as long as you catch them in time, they are pretty much safe and sound with your care :YMHUG:

One of the little guys actually flew up to me (the one that begged) when I went into the aviary. The other is a little more cautious . I noticed a big scab on the younger one's head. I'm hoping it falls off and doesn't leave a scar so he can grow up to be as pretty as all his cage mates!

Thanks! When they flatten their heads to one side of the cage floor and still somehow manage to pull off the "wobble head" you know its serious feeding time! The video they were cautious and only moments out of the brooder. Its NOW a full-on fight for the pipette . Wings blocking off their siblings faces, siblings hoping on each other's heads. Everyone trying to get whiplash by out-wobbling the other. One flying out over my head into the hallway only to whack into a wall (this one reminds me of my tame Hammy so I am very hopeful for another tame).

I hope the scar heals as well. The one that is flying to you may become tame. And once they are completely imprinted even the flock flying flying around wont change their attachment. But even more satisfying is ....... knowing you are the very reason he survived! I see happy baby feeding days ahead of you. ;)

Wouldn't be grand if the entire flock knew you this well and landed on you everyday? He may be tame. PS If he is coming to you for a feed, it means he needs a feed . That means he's not weaned yet .
