France81 - The big advantage of picking them up in person would be that you can see the birds before deciding which ones seem to be in the best health.
But, Ana, you do realize that if you drive there and see all the lovely birds they have, you might just come home with a car load of them, don't you?

Iso,
That's what I'm afraid of. But
I'm thinking about adding a pair beside the companion for my lavender. :D

Another pair of Lavender or another species?
Note that more than one pair of Lavenders may not get along well long term.
Better add another species.

Or keep them in a different flight...

w.l. - my male is now actively working on making the nest his own (adding the entrance tunnel as we speak).

Iso,
I'm thinking about different species, one that will get along with my lavenders. I'm not planning on breeding but if it happens I'll be very glad! :)

Some say even just hearing another pair might disturb Lavenders and ruin chances of successful breeding.
If one has or can get a sure pair, I think it is safer to combine them with another species.

Good about your male
The way they should be.
Just don't expect to see them inside their nest any more! Or to peek in for nest controls. Lavenders like their privacy! :-)

Well....if you're willing to drive for a few hours, have you looked into some Bird Fairs in the area? Check out the Calendar and also google Bird Fairs or Bird Shows and you will be surprised to see how many are coming up over the next few months. You will meet breeders, get their business cards, phone numbers, it is an endless FUN search....and the bird addiction goes on and on.... :-D

Hey guys, I'm in contact with one of the contacts that Dave suggested in Maryland, I'm planning a trip to go get the lavender in about 2 weeks. I hope all goes well. You guys are great!

Jenny,
I'll look it up to see the bird shows around me, is all a good thing to know where to look when I find myself in similar situation.
