Should I take Unhatched Eggs out of Nest?
Today is the 17th day for my Gouldians and there are two eggs that did not hatch out of 4. Two hatched, one on the 14th and one on the 15th day. Is it normal for some to hatch late? Should I leave them couple more day? After how many days would they be considered infertile?

Ken03 Well I left mine for a day or two more and one hatched , the rest either died early in the eggs or werent fertile , just leave it be for a couple of more days.
You can check if the eggs are fertile by candling them with a narrow light beam , if after 14 days the eggs are still yellow and you see the egg yolk going up as you turn it it means its probably infertile , although I would leave the eggs as it acts as heat conductor warming up the chicks .
I wouldn't try to disturb the nest though as it may scare off the mother , gouldians already are bad parents if you mess around they could just abandon the young .
Just leave the eggs in there they just might hatch , if the mom sat on the first egg she layed some probably developed sooner.
Congratulations for the little birdies

Sounds good, I thought that the eggs might take the parents attention away from properly caring/feeding the babies. I will leave them alone. However, at what point should one move the infertile eggs? Once they are 30 days old, which makes the new born two weeks old?StodOne wrote: Ken03 Well I left mine for a day or two more and one hatched , the rest either died early in the eggs or werent fertile , just leave it be for a couple of more days.

I would leave the eggs untill the chicks fledge.
They work like hot water bottles for the babies, plus they help serve as buffer to keep small chicks from being squashed by the full weight of the parets.
If and when the parents give up on these eggs, they'll toss them out of the nest themselves.

Sounds good, will do. Out of curiosity what is considered the max days that an egg could still hatch if it was fertile, in other words could it hatch up to the 20th day? Or if it's passed 15 days that mean it will not hatch?lovezebs wrote: Ken03

Usually it takes somewhere between 14 to 16 days, give or take.
The problem is, that sometimes it's very difficult to know when they actually began sitting tight. We might think they started on a certain day, but they have other ideas.
As to how long an egg stays alive, not really sure.
Usually the hen begins to incubate when the last eggs has been laid, or after the 5th egg has been laid, whichever comes first.

This morning I checked the nest to find out that there is only one unhatched egg and the two babies, so I looked down on the cage floor and there it was it. Looks like they already reject this one.
