Egg hatched today.

BUT I CAN'T SEE THE HATCHLINGS

They are UNDER the parent, so I am lucky to get an occasional quick glimpse of a head or butt.
There were 5 eggs, this afternoon, I saw 2 eggs, so "maybe" 3 hatched ???

The parents are putting their head down under them, so feeding or prodding the chicks.
They are being such a tease to me, when I can't see under them. ARGH

I have to wait till the chicks get large enough to not be completely hidden by the parent on top of them.

Congratulations Gary!! Babies!!! Now you are gonna stay glued to that screen and get nothing done.

Tape some footage when the babies get bigger and the parents aren't butt-blocking the shots.

Can't you just take a peek in the nest, to see how things are going?
Maybe snap a quick picture with your phone?

My parents never seem to mind.

You nailed it. Once I can start to see the chicks, it will be a time sink. I have a chair by the computer all ready for me.
That is an old PC that is not connected to the network, so to get pics, I have to take a pic of the screen with my camera, then upload that pic. A little clumbersome, but it works.

These are first time parents, so I don't want to do anything to spook them. I normally leave first time parents alone. The only time I would open the nest is to return tosslings. And luckily, no tosslings

Yes, especially since I had a drought of non mating birds since mid 2016. It will be nice to hear begging again.

Got this pix off the screen of my computer when the male jumped out of the nest, for some reason.
2 chicks + 3 unhatched eggs.
The chicks are 3 days old.
Scheduled hatch date was Sat the 10th, and I am pretty sure both hatched on Sat.

For some reason, the little Cannon camera did not get a good focus on the screen.
The speckles on the image are because I have video gain cranked up as much as I can, to get an image in the dim nest.

Yup, and egg food has to be supplied 3x a day already.

ac12 It`s like the volcano cams. When nothing is happening, you can see just fine, and then when something does happen the whole thing is covered in smoke.
