The baby finches keep jumping out of the nest. Is this what they are supposed to do? Do I put them back in the nest? There are 3, one is very tiny. One can really run. LOL

Mom is growing back some feathers, not near as many as she should have but they will come I'm sure.

Babies will fledge at some point (jump the nest).
If they are too young according to their age, then put them back by all means.
However if they keep popping out, then they are probably ready to fledge.

Not to worry, Mom will continue to feed them wherever they are in the cage, and being indoors (?) they should be able to keep warm enough (I am assuming that they are fully feathered).

Mom's feathers will come back.

P.S.

Make sure that the bath water for Mom is very very shallow at this stage, and remove it from the cage after she has bathed (don't want any drowned youngsters).

Mom baths in her water dish. I had a bath but she never used it.I did put a box at the bottom of the cage with some nesting material, for the babies, just in case, One is very teeny compared to the other two.

Yes, they are feathered. Look like little gremlins.

The nest is very high in the cage, should I lower it maybe, Not as far to jump?

If they are at the fledgling stage, they will be flying before you know it.

I wouldn't worry about the nest, they are probably fluttering at this stage and not dropping like rocks, so they should be ok.

Do you happen to know approximately when they hatched?

The little box at the bottom of the cage is a good idea. Hopefully they will use it.

They were layed around may 10 and hatched around may 23.

That sounds a bit too young for fledging... Since they are mostly feathered, it's probably fine to leave them out; some bird species routinely leave the nest several days before they can fly. A rule wildlife rehabilitators use is that if the bird can perch on your thumb, it is old enough to be out of the nest, and if it cannot perch, it should be placed back in the nest or hand-reared (if the nest cannot be located or is abandoned). Have you seen the babies jump out? If not, there is a small chance the parents are tossing them, though this is unlikely, as the babies are older.

One baby in the nest soon to fledge. I noticed bugs crawling on outside of wicker nest so I spritzed with Avian Insect Liquidator early morning. Came home to find baby dead on floor of aviary. I feel so bad thinking I should have left it alone. But what about the bugs????

Leave the bugs alone.

Do nothing that would risk the health of the birds.
