Come on Fraz.........6-9 months :-O

Yer far to eager in trying to breed from em at a rediculas age, as mentioned above, wait until there at least 1 year old.

You wouldn't have a girlfriend and have a baby at the age of 12 years old would yer :-Q

well it's the same with birds, at least give em half a chance to at least reach full maturity 8-|

Somebreeders use a 9 month aged cok with an old hen +one year..

I know that Zebras are capable of breeding at a very young age, but just because they can, doesn't mean they should.

Some might simply not be mature anough mentally to raise a clutch of chicks.

Just my personal oppinion.
Spot on, couldn't agree more, both well said

Stuart whiting yeh when I very first started out and I red online they can breed at 3 months asd when I put it on the forum near enough everyone said that you shoud wait till 6-9 and this is healthy age #-o but it’s no problem anyway because only one has bred and had chicks so now I can just leave them for few more months until next breed

lovezebs yeh one male was born in July the other was born in may and one female was in March aswell as finchie and the last female I do not know the age of but she seems like she’s maybe abit older as she was building her own nest and was in breeding mode trying to dance cerytime her mate sang

Finchie was born about March I can’t remeber that well but she was mine I bred and her male I’m not sure of

Fraza.....these birds are barely 7-8 months old

For any worthwhile results you wanna be breeding from em when there at least 1 year old,

this is std testament and is not rocket science and is clearly why yer birds are unsuccessful at the moment,

Best tip I can give yer mate is wait until April spring of next year and this will also give em the required nutritional build up during the winter months and should be ready for next spring and with a lot more higher chance of being successful[/quote]

Thanks I will try to

Fraza

Well hon, we all live and learn.

I know that some Zebras will breed and raise clutches at a very young age, but all birds are different, and some mature faster than others.

I do agree that Spring would be a better time for them to get into the full swing of breeding. Slightly older birds, longer daylight hours, warmer weather, always better.

Just one thing the one that abandoned the nest is probably older than a year old because she used to be a show bird so she must definetly be older because the breeder keeps them till mature for the shows

In that case that particular bird no doubt got distracted, disturbed by something and is probably why she abandoned the nest, other birds interfering is often the biggest cause especially if there's other zebras in the avairy

Stuart whiting yeh there is I think it may be because the male stopped airing in the nest and was always outside so she got fed up being in the nest all day just hope he gets his parenting skills better because he’s too interested in trying to get the other two females
