First society chick hatched!!!

Post by hfinney » Sat Nov 18, 2017 7:21 pm

My first society chick hatched today, and I am over the moon!! Is there anything special I need to feed the parents while they’re feeding the chick(s)? Also should I be worried if the parents aren’t feeding it yet? They’re just sitting on it and the other three eggs. Thanks!!

Congratulations!!!

First hatchlings are always so exciting =D> .

Regarding the chick(s)....
Don't worry about the parents not feeding yet. Chicks live off their yolk sac for the first day or two after hatching.

I would offer hard boiled eggs daily, either grated or put through a garlic press or potato ricer. Also spray millet, and some greens, along with their regular diet.

If your birds like mealworms, offering some small will be appreciated.
