I have a walk-in aviary with about 75 square feet of floor space. Over the summer and early fall it held about 30 canaries, both genders. I gradually removed the males in the late fall. Evidently there is a male or two in there that are being quiet; now there are three nests of chicks in that aviary.
I guess that I should admire a male canary that is smart enough to not advertise. It certainly worked out well for him.
