This morning, all seems well with the nest. Another egg hatched out, but now there is such a mass of babies (7) that I couldn't tell whether it is Berry or BCCB. The babies are already larger, and I saw one of the Societies FEEDING this morning, what a relief! If these Society boys can pull this off, I think they deserve a vacation in Hawaii!

That is so wonderful to hear Sally!

I would be happy to escort the Society Boys to Hawaii and make sure they have a good time! \:D/

Here are photos of the new family. There is still one egg to hatch out. Right now, there are either 4 BCCBs and 4 Berries or 3 BCCBs and 5 Berries. The date on the photos is wrong, I didn't get it set.

The first photo is of Felix (they are Oscar and Felix, the odd couple of course) sitting on his babies. You may be able to see a couple of fuzzies sticking out from under his right wing.

This is all 8 babies, plus the one unhatched egg. The pinker ones are the Strawberries, and the BCCBs look like a bunch of tan lint!

Thanks for sharing the pics....I always enjoy looking at little birdie babies....and it just amazes me how delicate and fragile they look early on and then how they can feather out so fast! :)

Time to start thinking of some names!

Wow Sally , how excited you must be. It looks as though everything is going great. Let us know if the other egg hatches! I want some strawberry finches soooooo badly,..... can't find them anywhere.
I did decided again the pair I was talking about at the Petco. They didn't look so great to me and I didn't have enough info about them. Maybe soon......

The last egg hatched this morning. It was still whole when I checked it first thing, and I was beginning to wonder if it was DIS, but decided to give it another day. Just as I was about to put it back in the nest, I noticed a small hole. I thought perhaps someone had punctured the egg earlier, and now it was DIS, but then I saw a small movement thru the hole, and it was pink! The last Strawberry baby was trying to get out. So I have 4 BCCBs and 5 Berries in the nest, and Felix and Oscar are feeding them. I just got home from the Bird Mart (another whole story), and the last baby was on the bottom of the pile, so much tinier than everyone else, so I moved it to the top of the heap.

I think Felix and Oscar are going to be two very busy little birds for the nest few weeks. I know you are so excited!

A sad note--the tiniest Strawberry didn't make it. :( I knew when I saw how little it was yesterday that it would be in trouble, and now I wish I had placed it with my other Societies. These babies just explode in growth, so the others were already about twice as big as this one, and with that many babies in the nest, he may have just gotten squashed. On a brighter note, the others are doing fine, full crops, and just a wiggly mass when I move Felix out of the way.
