Re: Owl Child
Hi All.
Owl Child is still with us and amongst the living.
He had some breakfast, I cleaned his little bum, and he went down for a nap

Re: Owl Child
It's been awhile since I've seen young owl that age because if I don't leave mine totally alone the parents abandon, but don't the eyes even look strange? Did your other chick's look like that? Maybe I'm just remembering wrong

Here are the other two ( not entirely sure about age comparison). The big difference, is that Owl Child is bald (is it possible that parents, are plucking his baby fuzz?) I can see little dots on the back of his head, where I think feathers will be coming in (?). Is it possible that feathers wouldn't grow due to malnutrition?

Re: Owl Child
Very strange
Malnutrition can prevent feathers from growing right. The chicks will only get the necessary feathers for survival like wing and tail feathers. All other feathers may be missing or sparse.

Oh my, the owls have been quite a situation in the Elana House of Finches. Poor little guy looks like a pigeon baby
.
Would be very sad indeed if his parents plucked him to make another nest. Im so glad he took a meal. That means he is probably on his way to getting better soon. His skin looks nice and hydrated. Looks like his body just loved that formula

I hope they're not plucking my poor little munchkin, that would be just adding insult to injury, poor wee muffin.

I've been feeding him three times a day, seeing as he's not newly hatched ( which would mean every two hours). Every feeding takes around half an hour, because my little one is not cooperative, and not the most enthusiastic of eaters.
We managed to survive one more day, and I'm managing to get more food into him now.
Hope for the best for tomorrow, and hopefully another day of life.

I'm thinking of rearing my birds by hand after the zebra mishaps, working days might be a problem though.

Handfeeding is not easy, and not to be taken on lightly (most especially with very young hatchlings.
It takes lots of time, infinite patience, and steady hands . It's very easy for them to inhale food, and then they die. If you don't feed enough, they die. If you feed too much, they die.
It is however incredibly rewarding if and when it works
