Thank you to all who weighed in on this mystery. I will keep you posted as to what the little guy (or gal) turns out to be. You can actually see the tiny blueish dot on the outside corner of the beak in one of my photos. And, when it "yawned" I saw for certain some of those inner beak markings. I researched those mouth markings yesterday and found that although cordons and gouldians have them, societies do not - not inside and not outside either. So, maybe, as you said, it is a crossbred bird (though never saw any sign of that sort of activity), or maybe it is a "late blue-er" cordon! I am holding out hopes for a cordon.

My son, who took the photos for me yesterday, pointed out that the fledgling is already noticeable larger than the society parents. Maybe it was just more fluffed up, but I think he is right. In size, it is equal with my gouldians. So, now I am really mystified. I will just have to wait and watch.

If the fledgling is already larger than the Societies, it is definitely not a 'pure' CB, as they are much smaller. It still could be a cross.
