That's the first I've heard of this. I would imagine it would take quite a bit of ink being digested to kill a bird. My birds don't eat the newspaper, they just tear it up!

The ink does rub off slightly onto my hands when I change the paper but just slightly.
I had heard that it was toxic, too. Although some newspapers have switched to vegetable dyes, and recycled paper. But I prefer to use plain newsprint (sold as drawing paper on the roll by Ikea), or Kraft brown paper sold in Office Supply stores or post office as parcel wrap. Also like the cleaner look.... though Poohbear thinks some of us may be just a teensy bit anal retentive when it comes to how the bottom of the cage looks!
