:D cute little Mohawk. Sucks to hear that the homozygous form of the gene causes baldness.

My foster society finches are crested. They have"slipped" an egg in on me now and then. The babies did not have a crest.

If they are both (all) crested, then the babies supposedly will not have crests and could potentially have health issues - or so I've read.

I wonder if the crest is a "split" form of baldness which seems like it might be a recessive trait. I know some of you guys hate genetics but I am thinking it is a visual "split" (this happens in a morph of ball pythons where the heterozygous or split form of a pastel shows much brighter color than a normal, but when two pastels are bred together you get 25% "super pastels" which is the homozygous expression of the ressive trait with the animal being a brilliant yellow color with a beautiful white spot on its head). I enjoy genetics and one time got crazy with it and did a 5 simple recessive trait punnett square by hand. It took me about 5 hours to finish it all including the percentage chance of getting a certain phenotype and genotype. I still get confused with gouldians though, they have some odd things with their head/breast colors that I still dont understand...all well, can't win 'em all :)
