We have some baby gouldians ion the local pet store going through their first moult and they all look like pinheads with their feathers coming through! It looks very painful. One of them started singing when I whistled to him, however! Beautiful birds

Tempting aren't they?
I get upset with breeders who don't hang on to their kids until they finish their first molt. I find that this is a vulnerable time for them, and that they should be safe at home until they're done.

Well, these babies didn't look well! They were OK...but every moult is hard. My canary found it harder every and every year...and he was 14 when he died!
I must say I've also seen baby Zebra finches where the Colors have not changed (in stores) and I always worry about these little ones as they are so young!
I have 2 adult male Zebbies and my star finch so Gouldians might be a while off!

Sadly, many people just want to get rid of the babies as quickly as possible, (make a quick buck, and don't have to feed them any longer than Is absolutely necessary)

I have a bachelor group (all males) as I can't bare to lose any more females to egg binding. I couldn't part with babies either!
