Congratulations! Keep us posted as they grow! Just make sure that the second day they are fed... My pair of zebras tried but were unsuccessful in feeding their tiny babies the first 3-4 days... I handfed them right from the nest and when then the parents learned how to feed them themselves and now they are fledged and weaning!

You should have one or two more hatchlings today. How many are you up to now? You're probably spending all your time watching the excitement! I know I did. Ahhhh babies! ;))

Wonderful how societies let you peek in on all the activities!

They could have thrown the egg out do to it being no good, or even eaten it possibly if it was a dud and they accidently broke it open.

I cant quite see the crops, are they feeding the chicks regularly?

Yep their chocolate colored feathers will sprout where you see those stripes on their little nubbies!

More patterns with the colors will emerge as they grown. You did GOOD! =D>

So excited for you! I just read your post and it so reminded me of my first two little zebra babies this spring. It is amazing how fast they grow and fledge! How are your little ...not so little now I am sure...doing?

I have been away for a while and I was catching up on missed posts. I just decided I might be better off to start from the tell end.

Babs@lovezebs

Very very sad news..

Today when I checked on the babies this morning they seemed fine and Dad and Mom were feeding them..This afternoon when I was changing the water again I took a peek and the little ones had passed away. I have no clue what happened. they had full crops and they didn't look squished or anything..We are heartbroken.. =(( I just cried.

Maybe I'm not cut out to have finches

Oh honey no.....
I am so so sorry to hear this.
Do they have any injuries on them?
Where the parents keeping them warm?

I just don't understand what could have gone wrong.
What were the parents feeding them?

Of course you are meant to have finches. You are a good finch Mom. Sometimes sad things happen for no reason that we can understand, and there is nothing we can do about it.

You've had a hard go of it over this last little while, sweetie, but don't give up on your birds. Things will get better.

Hugs coming your way.
