Babs

Thanks Babsi,

The feeding parents have done, and are doing a great job with these kids, annnnd....

Look what we have here...
Alittle green who popped out today, just while I was changing the papers in the flight.

This little sweetie came out fully flighted, and I had a heck of a time catching him to slip a band over his ankle and take a look at him, lol

And here he is:

Green #2 Fledgling, banded dark blue on left ankle.

At what age do you typically band them? I tried close-ringed banding my society finches at about ten days, but their toes didn't go in easily and they wouldn't stay still, so I had to give up. I compared the bands I purchased to my adult male society finch's band, and they were the same size, so I don't think that was the issue.

This time, because they chose this silly nest, I had to wait till they fledged, but usually younger.

I use a bit of olive oil over the knuckle to slide the little colour rings on. They are just little perler beads, cut in half and stretched out a bit .

Thank you! Looking back, I think that's what I was sold. Now I feel foolish for paying $5 for 500 beads...

Babs

Goodmorning Babs,

They appear to be somewhat shocked if anything  .

Other than the 'parents', I haven't seen anyone attempting to feed them so far.
However I did see a couple of 'get outta my way pecks' thrown in their general direction, but nothing of any great significance.

How are your kids doing?

Well another one came popping out today with a fluttuer and a plop to the floor of the flight.

A little smaller than the other three, but well fleshed and looking good.

Green #4 Fledgling, banded dark blue on left ankle.
