Kelly Babs debbie276

Ok, so Babies had their first wellness check up today.

All three are underfed, and had to be fed by me.
The one that I'd mentioned as being dark headed, appears to be lethargic, and wouldn't beg, just weakly opened his mouth, and couldn't seem to hold his head up very well. I am worried about this one, something not quite right.

Here are some pictures:

Did the darker one act any better after you fed it?

Kelly

Not really. He's just sort of not right :YMSIGH: . I'll check on them again tomorrow, and hopefully there will be some improvement.

I really wish that Mom and Dad, would feed a bit more. They are going through a lot of egg food, but haven't quite figured out, that most of it needs to go Into these kids.

Take a quick look at chicks from another clutch, and compare to these babes....check out the crops.

Could just be the picture but the crops look like there is a lot of air in them in the second picture.
Were these two clutches those that you've been feeding also in between the parents feeding?

The clutch in the second picture (just an example), is from last year, the picture was taken in the nest (after parent feeding).

My concern, is with this present clutch (first pict and the other pictures above), especially the dark headed chick....

I'm really fascinated by the difference in color between the two light ones and the dark one. I'm quite curious about how much different the early juvenile feathers will look on that one in comparison to the other two.

Maybe he's just so weak that he seems "off". I already know you're gonna supplement feed, so I am very much hoping that will get his strength up and put him on the right track. [-o<

HAPPY UPDATE \:D/

I decided to do a quick check on babies this evening (worried grandma  ).

Well, I'm oh so glad that I had offered that little feed in the morning. I guess it gave those babies the energy to yell a lot louder than before. I could hear them all over the house .

As of this evening, these babies (all three), are stuffed to the gills. Filled with egg and spray millet, with some greens thrown in for good measure.

They are energetic, begging loudly, heads up and moving......
I can't believe the difference :-BD

What a relief :-).

When I took them out this morning and saw these skinny things with next to empty crops, and dark head barely able to pick up his head, my heart sank.

Now they look like little scrawnies, with food filled balloons on each side of their screaming faces.

Gotta love it !!!

Even I was getting stressed out. Those crops reminded me of the day CackleJax's babies went 13 hours without food.

When the parents died he was left alone with 9 kids, I was scrambling to get formula & another finch (kojax to help him) etc.

You're gonna give me PTSD WOMAN !!!! :))

Babs

You'll survive, lol.

My parents usually are all good feeders. That's why I was surprised to see these skinny weanies, instead of chubby chickens.

Initially my worry was for baby dark head (don't know why he's a different colour than the other two). It kinda looked like his head was bruised, which is why I grabbed all three for a quick check, and I'm so happy that I did.

Had I not pulled them this morning, I'm not quite sure how all of this would have turned out (especially for baby dark head, he was not doing very well).

Could both parents be split to Blue? Maybe it's a Blue chick and nothing is wrong just the mutation colors?

A BLUE CHICK  ??? Whatcha talking about ???
Nobody said anything about any blue chicks.

They were supposed to be my Red headed, White breasted, Green backs. 'Someone' on the Forum promised me RH/WB/GB's !!! I want my RH/WB/GB's :((

Grandparents on Mother's side, are RH/PB/Greens (split to white).
Mother is, BH/WB/Green
Father is, YH/WB/Green

Where on earth would a BLUE come from ???
Debbie, are you messing with me?
