Napoleon Weavers

Post by JohnBoy » Sat Mar 10, 2012 10:46 am

My male weaver has been working on this nest for quite a few months. He is still working on it. I have no clue when it will be finished. But I am hoping that they will breed this Spring. It would be a first for me. Had them in the past but they never built nest. Fingers are crossed.

Holding thumbs... Do they use to cocofibre from choice? have they ever tried weaving with stripped grass pieces?

The nest looks great. When I had a Napoleon weaver he only used cocoa fiber.

I offer them a variety of materials. They seem to go just for the coconut fiber.

What a nest! The egg looks like a robin's egg! So beautiful! They aren't worried about you reaching in their nest? Good luck with them!

Here is a link to a male in courting display. I love watching mine. He will start as soon as he is in full plumage and will dance and fluff up all day long until the female gives in.

That's some serious nest building, very cool. I had no idea birds would take so long with nest building.

Thanks for the answer on the breeding material. Just wondering what other things I can offer my new ones.

Best wishes that your pair rear some young in that nest.
