Before too long, you will hear them begging--by the time they fledge, you won't believe how loud and demanding they can be! Congrats on the babies!

Uoo Laura, I’m so sorry to hear that !

I too lost an Egg right in the middle of my Hen’s laying. But she replaced it.
I can see two Chicks in there, but not the third, and they won’t get out of the way, where I can inspect the nest. Of course I’m quite anxious about it, hoping for a third Chick being in there somewhere !

Again, very sorry about your loss.

Have a good Day ! :)
Good Golf good times and anything else that makes you happy llike

So sorry for your loss. It is so hard to go thru all that waiting and then lose them. Is this the first clutch to hatch out? Were any of the other clutches fertile, or clear eggs? Is this a young pair? If they are young, sometimes they take a while to get it right. Did they have lots of eggfood, and calcium?

Normally, three clutches would be the max you want them to have in a season. Since they haven't actually raised any, and that is part of what takes so much out of the parents, you could let them try again right now. If it were me, however, and since Zebras don't have any specific breeding season that you have to work around, I would pull the nest and nesting materials, give them lots of good protein, calcium, veggies, vitamins, and let them build back up a bit.

they are a year old and yes this is the 3rd set of eggs they had eggs food and egg shells calcium and veggies . i also lost spice finch eggs right before this. so i am not sure what i going to do but i think i will pull all the nest for right now . would it be better to wait until the weather is warmer? my house is alittle chilly also and its been cold these past few days. the sad thing is that baby looked so good yesterday .

It is so hard to know what is going wrong, sometimes. Zebras are usually easy, so it is particularly frustrating when things don't go well with them. At one year, they are still young. I think it will do them good to have a rest, and warmer weather certainly makes it a bit easier. It doesn't take much for those babies or even eggs to get chilled. And since you just lost Spice eggs as well, the temperature may be a problem.

Even with the nest out, you may find eggs on the floor, in the seed cup, etc. If you use newspaper to line the tray, they may try to shred up newspaper to use. Just keep tossing the eggs and see if she doesn't slow down and stop after a bit.

I posted on your other thread, but I believe this hen needs a rest. If you can separate her from the male, maybe she will slow down.
