I pulled the baby society finch two days ago when it was ten days old to band him, but his leg was still much too small. So I waited until today and pulled him again. This time the band fit just fine. I took the opportunity to take some photos of him...or her, whatever it may turn out to be
This was the best one that came out. So, introducing, Baby...my first society hatchling ever to be banded.

What a sweet photo....he looks so delicate and tiny. Glad you got him banded...I am still trying to get up the nerve to band my adults...

The hen is a chocolate pied, the cockbird is a crested (bonten, I think it's called?) fawn pied. It's too early to tell if Baby will be crested or not but as chocolate is apparently dominant and the spots he's growing on his skin are very dark, it's a safe bet he'll be chocolate pied as well.
On a side note, my gouldian eggs should be hatching sometime between now and Monday if they're good.
