Is my Java eggbound?

Post by Geordie » Mon Jan 21, 2008 1:11 am

5-6 month old Silverback, starting to get really fat, tearing up paper at the bottom of the aviary and really aggressive when the other bird comes anywhere near. It moves it's head from side to side and opens it's mouth in a threatening manner.

Cheers

I don't know anything about Javas, but that's not eggbound behavior. It sounds more like coming into breeding mode. When the hens get eggbound, they will get very quiet, get very puffed up, often their wings will droop down, and they usually will wind up on the floor. They are obviously in distress, and they will sit very still with eyes closed.

I took it to the vet today and he said it has no eggs, but still can't tell whether it is male or female, told him about it's behaviour and then sent me on my way with a "don't worry". Hmm.
