So her Goulds are kicking chicks out of the nest? Will Societies do that if it is their first clutch?

Societies are usually very prolific breeders and have been breed for the sole porpose of being good parents and being able to foster other birds. It is a finch that doesn't exist in nature but perhaps you could say it is a man made finch that is choosen for it's traits to be good parents.

As such it is unlikely for societies to toss their own chicks.

Hey, as a breeder of Japanese frills I have to disagree a little. Societies haven't been bred for their parenting abilities, but rather like any other bird for specific physical characteristics. We're just very lucky that the nature of the bird is such that they are wonderful parents, and many will raise just about anything you give them. I have had societies refuse to raise chicks I tried to foster with them, but to date have never had any that refused to raise their own chicks.
