So my pair of zebras are VERY productive. They just had four chicks fledge(about a week ago?), and there is a new egg in the nest! I want to stop her from hatching...heck, laying for at least a few weeks, or even months. Should I just remove the nest? I have also stopped the protein flow at this stage. Also, are the chicks old enough to be separated from their parents at this age? I am not sure if they can eat on their own because they still beg ALL the time.
Thank you for your help.

If you dont want them raising another clutch I'd remove the nest altogether and toss the egg that was laid. As long as the nest is in there they'll just keep raising clutch after clutch. Zebras have been dubbed 'rabbit' finches around here for that reason
If the chicks are eating and drinking on their own they are old enough to be seperated, however they do benefit from staying in the same cage with their parents for as long as possible.

You should do as Ravyn said and remove the nest. If the young have just left the nest you should leave them with the parents. I would give them at least 2 weeks after leaving the nest to make sure they can take care of themselves.
