Zebra matings...

Post by nvs_nme_671 » Tue Feb 12, 2008 8:27 pm

My pair of Zeb (1 all-white, 1 full gray w/ stripe tail) have been nesting w/ each other for awhile and became aggressive when I put my St. Helena in their cage a week ago just to let them play around w/ each other once in awhile. The lil waxbill has been in his separate cage. The problem that I'm trying to figure out is why hasn't there been any eggs poppin up? I was wondering how long does eggs start to show up? Unless I just have 2 female Zebs. The store that I picked them up from said they were M & F, but I noticed that my gray didn't have Orange-cheek patches... Help?!?!

If you have a grey with not cheek patch (reguardless of color, see avatar) you have a female. On the other hand, if your white zeb has a deep or dark red beak you have a male. If it is a light orange you have another female.

even if the white zeb. has no markings could it still be a female? but i noticed that he/she has been the one to fix up the nest and also make a distinct nest call whenever it hops in and soon after the gray will jump in.

If the white does make a distinct call, if its a quick and rapid, then yes it is a male. Both male and female will help with nest building, although my female is lazy and only tidy's up the nest once the male has everything in it.
