yep coco fiber and hay is what I am using I have 12 tons of hay so why not, lol
Id be worried with cottom bating that it could tangle around a little foot cutting it off, Ive seen it happen MANY times with different beddings. such as yarn, small threads cotton stuff,

My birds prefer Jute and Coco Fiber. The Gouldians - since they are not the best nest builders mainly use the Jute, as do the Socities. My Owls, Strawberries, Cutthroats, Shafttails and Pearl Heads will use both.

Jute is very similar to burlap...but softer. I've purchased burlap from a fabric store - cut it in about 3 inch squares and then the birds unravel what they need. Or you can pull it apart yourself for your birds.
But the jute is easier for me since it is all "disassembled" already...loL!

Absolutly not. I go to wal-mart and buy a yard of burlap, cut it into little squares and then pull the strings apart. I have done this a few years and they love it. I read about it and coconut fiber being some of the best material. Since I couldn't get any coconut fiber I used the burlap.
I'll get some string together and post a pic.

HJ, you don't have a Home Depot or Lowe's, Super Walmart, Target, etc.? Dang, how far out do you live???? Just joking there, but check anyplace that has a garden center and ask for it. I had an empty basket with a liner hanging in a tree once (searching for the right plant for it) and the wild birds picked the cocofiber clean in no time. Must be good stuff.
