Any tips? These are my gouldians...

Image

While they sleep around the same area, they don't really sleep "together" and sometimes my female or my male will make a noise at the other one kinda going "go away" that kinda noise they make, I can only describe it as a hiss but it's not that...

Is it just not breeding time for them, will they get along eventually? Because they get along most of the time, but sometimes they kinda grunt or whatever at each other...

Any tips?

Gouldians don't cozy up to each other like other species of finches do and they certainly don't groom each other - so that is normal of them to sit apart. I occasionally see pairs sit together during the night time, but not always.

How old is your pair? The ideal age to set up a pair to breed is between 1 -2 years of age.

Is your pair in breeding condition? If they are not, they won't go to nest until they are. My gouldians usually breed after they have completed their annual molt. You can also help bring them into condition with changes to their diet, such as offering eggfood on a more regular basis, offer soak seed and increasing the amount of light they receive and so on.

Then occasionally - some pairs just don't like each other. In this case, if you have other gouldians, you can change a pairing to see if that works more to their liking.

That hissy song you hear is normal and isn't meant to drive the other Gould away. Mine make that sound all the time but they aren't fighting.
