New Dad needs advice please.

Post by Vagabond » Tue Apr 15, 2008 12:54 pm

Hi I recently acquired a pair of society finches, who laid 8 eggs and the first one has hatched today. Do I need to supplement their diet while they are feeding the young? I have them on a diet of mixed finch wild & caged crushed peanut, sunflower hearts, nyjer, greens and egg food.

Just make sure they are getting plenty of nutrients... which egg food every day and a good finch mix should be enough. You could also offer cucumber and romaine lettuce. There are many different things you can give them it just depends on how much research and time you want to do. But it sounds like you are doing fine.... I don't know about peanuts though. I've never given my finches that.

Yes mine do eat peanuts on occasion. I do put them though a blender first to make them very small.
