how are they working for you

i was thinking how cool would it be if you were able to take that felt pad and wet it and it swell up instant nest bed

I do have one of the tube nest in my aviary. I hung it in one of the fake trees. My owls sleep in it every night and love it. No eggs have been laid in it yet though.

Any luck with breeding your Zebras? The felt nest pad is primarily for canary style nests. I would be a little leary about that type of bamboo nesting basket because there isn't anything to prevent the eggs or chicks from falling out.

Wet the pad and instant nest? I'll bet you had Sea Monkeys and Magic Rocks as a child, didn't you?!

I agree about them falling out. I don't want my birds to lay eggs in them, but my owls sure do love to sleep in there.

i posted in my other thread about the finches, nothing new, i bought a new nest to see what happens. i will post back sometime next month, they just started building and matting this week.

isnt that nest shaped like the one someone made out of pvc pipe what the different if you put it up right and secure everything should be safe

i guess because he put the piece on the front, so he was thinking the same thing you could close that part up with some raffia

I think the PVC pipe had a hole cut in the side.
You could use that bamboo nest if you're able to mount it at an angle, not completely horizonal or vertical. Tip the bottom down and hope that the nest is built way in the back.
I'm just surprised your Zebras don't like the typical bamboo nest like most stores carry.

well the new one i bought this time is bamboo they seem to be ok with it because the top is open

Here is a picture of my owls in the tube nest that you were asking about. They are getting ready to roost for the night. The cock (Casper) is sitting in the doorway and the hen (Jasper) has already settled in. They love it.

I have also attached a pic of my shaftail. He loves this plant.

okay, after I posted this pic I noticed that the tree really needs cleaning.
So I was going to take down the little nest and take it outside and wash it down with a hose. As I was about the remove the nest, my female owl jumped out. I peeked in and what I did not want to happen..... has.

There are 4 eggs and she is sittin on them. I am sooooo excited!

Well we will have to see if they are raised. Who knows with owls.

If you lived near me I would GIVE you one. I liketo know my birds are loved and cared for. I would rather give to a good home, than sell.

Do you just have your finches fly free in the room? What do you do with all the poop and seeds?

Moe, the felt nest pads are used a lot by canary breeders. I use open canary nests for some of my finches, but I just give them the empty nest and nesting material and let them do their own thing. I got some of those tube-style nests, but they seemed a little small to me, so I haven't actually used them. I put one in my Owls' cage, and they ignored it and built their own nest, which kept falling to the floor. I used one of these coco tunnels I got at PetsMart. It is open at both ends, so I stuffed one end with hay. If you use the tube-style, be sure to angle it so the back is lower than the front, or eggs can roll out.

Donna, congrats on the Owl eggs. Mine were very quick to come off the nest, so the more privacy, the better.

[I have a sunroom we converted to a bird room. I have large planted silk trees which I take out once a month a wash down with a hose. I have large perching stands my husband built fpr me. I put newspaper around the bottom of it for dropping and I am constantly sweeping up seeds off the tile floor. There at lots of nest hanging around. Most dropping seem to fall from the perches. Lots of work, but very rewarding.
