Breeding Chambers

Post by IBleed4Thee » Sat May 03, 2008 10:55 am

So many breeding chambers to chose from...would love some input for this newbie.

My cage came with a wicker nest with domb top...it now covered with droopings and is revolting to say the lest. It also included one egg which I am hoping is a going to hatch.

I saw directions in my book for making your own chamber out of cardboard and was wondering if this is good idea? Are there any chambers that you can hook on the outside of the cage, so that they don't use use it as a dumping place.

I've seen some wooden one's on here...do you make those or purchase them?

Is this someone to tell if the egg is viable?

I really like the new plastic nestboxes, they can even be placed in the dishwasher to clean them. They can be hung on the outside of the cage, leaving more room for the birds. You probably won't see them in your local petshop, but they are available online. TammyS of www.justbirdstuff.com has them, and I think www.fairestfinches.com has them, too. I like the extra deep (or tall) ones, so babies are less likely to fall out.

Sally

Thanks again....I was just on Birds and Stuff. Those breeding nests are super and can be used inside or outside.

I'll be placing a order on payday for a few things.

Thanks so much for the link.

Sad news

Post by IBleed4Thee » Sun May 04, 2008 6:54 pm

Came home after a wonderful walk on the beach to find the only egg in the breeding nest on the floor.

Seems that they wanted it out of the nest or cage. It seems to me not to have been a viable egg, as it was just a tad of yellow running (yoke) stuff splattered on the rug.

Boohoo...I was so looking forward to having a baby zebra.

I'm sure there will be more so enough.
