I have two Zebra finch pairs. They both recently started laying eggs. I noticed that one next had and egg or two missing, but the other nest gained eggs. Is this possible or normal for them to move eggs. This also happened with the babies. One nest had three and the other one baby. Two babies left the first nest, but now there are two in it and none in the other!!! I am new to finches but this seems odd. :!:

That is really strange. I've never had that happen to me, and I can't imagine them being able to move eggs from one nest to another. They can toss eggs or babies out of the nest, but I've never heard of them moving them.

They can't move eggs...throw them and eat them yes. What do you mean.."Two babies left the first nest" Do you mean they were old enough to leave???

most likely one paired has been eating or tossing there eggs while the other pair is just laying more eggs. there is no way for them to pick up there eggs and move them to another nest.

I just find eggs missing from one nest and more eggs in the other. I had three babies in one nest and one in the other. Two came out of the first nest as they were about a week older than the other. But now the newborn in the other nest is gone while the first nest now has two (one that is getting feathers and another that is newborn). I was just wondering if they can transfer babies from one nest to another.

They coud possibly be moving the babies, i have heard from ppl who have had that done before but usually they move them out of the nest and onto the cage floor.
