Just fledged Gouldian

This morning the only chick to hatch from a 4 egg clutch ventured out.
It is parent raised and seems a lot more active than the 2 that were society raised. It's father is RH, WB, NB and mother is RH, PB split to WB, NB. They have been great parents. Hopefully their next clutch will have more fertile eggs.

Congrats, atarasi! I love watching the new fledglings explore their world. They change so much in a matter of days.

This chick has a really odd voice. It's father's song is really crackled so maybe it's inherited. Is there any way to tell the males from females at this age by their calls?

I doubt that you can tell that yet. When it sound like a song (a squeaky washing maching) then it is a male. I have one named Maytag.... just because of that. :lol:

It isn't trying to sing, it's just a nest call. They grow so quickly, I'm sure I'll find out soon enough! Maybe not knowing until it starts to color up just adds to the fun. :wink:

One of the 6 eggs is actually a baby bird!! Will my gouldiens take care of him?? Will the other eggs hatch?? how will I know>??
